He adored all women. Young. Old. Pretty. Or not so much. And they loved him. Even his best friend's little sister, Maggie. Braden comes home to discover that Maggie has taken up residence in the kirk, along with the other women of his clan, refusing to cook, clean, or care for the menfolk until his brother, Lochlan, Laird of Clan MacAllister, ends the feud with rival clan MacDouglas. The feud which began because Braden's brother Ewan ran off with Isobail MacDouglas while she was engaged to his other brother Kieran. But when they arrived in England, Isobail proved how treacherous she was because she only used Ewan as a means to travel and meet her Sassenach lover in England. By the time Ewan returns home, Kieran is believed to have killed himself and Isobail's brother is out for Ewan's blood. When the clansmen take Lochlan hostage along with Maggie's four brothers, she, Branden, and Sin travel to convince the MacDouglas to end the feud. On the journey she and Braden must face the reality of who they are and what they mean to one another. Some hilarity ensues. The sarcastic quips we've come to expect in the League and Dark Hunter series is still present in medieval fashion though not quite as prevalent. You will discover that Sin MacAllister is VERY much like Syn Belask of the League and love him accordingly. Sin's book, Born In Sin, follows next in the reading order for both MacAllister and Brotherhood series. You can read this book as Book One of The MacAllister series or Book Two of The Brotherhood Of The Sword Series. I prefer to combine the two series because the characters in the MacAllister series overlap with those in the Brotherhood series and blend together to make an even greater reading tapestry because you see how the characters relate in the other books. Master Of Desire is a prequel to both the Brotherhood and MacAllister series because in Draven's story you meet his younger brother Simon, The Wraith of the Brotherhood series, and Sin MacAllister of the MacAllister series.
There are many parallels between the Brotherhod and The League. The Quinfortis (the five) in the Brotherhood of the Sword are the medieval equivalent to the five who began the Sentella in the League novels. Unfortunately, MacGregor has left us hanging with more questions than answers with this series since she hasn't written a new installment since 2007. The most pressing being that of who is the Scorpion? The Pagan? Here's the combined reading order.

Claiming the Highlander The MacAllisters Kinley MacGregor 9780380817894 Books Reviews
Coming on the heels of Book 1, Master of Desire, there is no way this book could live up to it. That first book was amazing. This was a good effort and was definitely an enjoyable read but the comparison had to be made. Braden and Maggie were very likable, and I especially enjoyed the glimpses into their childhood friendship. There was a good amount of humor interspersed throughout the story, especially in these early encounters they had throughout their growing up years together. Kinley MacGregor continues to entertain with her well written Scottish adventures told with humor and passion. When her characters get together there is wonderful chemistry and sizzling hot sex.
This novel had a much lighter feel and was an entertaining read. I will continue to enjoy the coming books in this series.
Maggie is a feisty Scottish lass who has lost two brothers in stupid clan wars and decides to put a stop to it by persuading all the women in Clan McAllister to leave their families (essentially go on strike) until the men decide to stop the nonsensical killing. Amazingly enough, she is also successful in getting the MacDouglas clan women to do the same. The problem is, now the men on both sides want to kill HER!
Braden is the youngest of the McAllister clan--his older brother Lochlan is laird--and he's a ladies man all the way. In the first chapter, he's involved in an orgy with three sisters (one of them married) when the elderly husband finds them and he is persuaded to head back to Scotland. Braden is good-looking and charming and women chase after him, so he indulges himself. Thoroughly. He has decided that he will enjoy women where he finds them and never fall in love and get married because he can't trust them after his own mother's heartless rejection of his older brother Sin.
Maggie is not a beauty and knows that she will never have a chance with Braden, but she's loved him all her life because he was kind to her as a child when her brothers tormented her. This story is full of tender childhood anecdotes of Braden and Maggie and their siblings and all the young women who chase after him. Braden has never thought of Maggie as a woman before, but now that they are embroiled in this clan feud together, he finds himself wanting her more than any other woman. But he cannot allow himself to take her, because he knows that he can never be faithful to one woman, and hurting Maggie is just not something he can do.
I love the characterization, the childhood vignettes, the way that the author draws the couple together in spite of the obstacles separating them. In all honesty, though, I was a touch disappointed in the depth of Braden's womanizing and the implication that it's okay for him to indulge as long as the women chase after him. I actually thought that was a bit much for the time period, too. I mean, TEN girls attacking him when he was 16? Surely there would have been at least SOME restraint imposed by the church, parents, etc. It's bad enough that Maggie couldn't think of a single man she knew who was faithful to his wife--not her older brother nor her father nor Braden's father--much less that she ends up with a guy who attracts women like honey to bees. I think it detracts a little from the HEA.
HOWEVER, I'm already into the third book of the series, and I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from enjoying this one. (I am wondering how this one relates to the first book, though. Seem to be completely unrelated characters unless I'm missing something.)
Braden is a happy knight. He is chased by women every where. The first scene has three sisters working to seduce him, while the husband is away. Suddenly there is a bellow and in comes the husband. A sudden flight from England to Scotland is in order. Back home Maggie has started a small war between the men and women of two clans. She is smart and strong. No male has ever been interested in her because of her strong will and her six brothers. She has lost two brothers to a clan war and is determined to end it. She gets the women of both clans to band together to take a stand. The men are furious and want their women back. When Braden comes home his brother the laird having a lot of problems with this situation. They send Braden in because he is able to sweet talk any woman. I love the story between Braden and Maggie. I also love that his brother Sin is introduced to us with some strong history. I will be rereading this one again. I only wished I loved vampire books and then I would read her Sherrilyn Kenyon books.
