The Magic Warped The MagicWarper Trilogy Book 1 eBook Rick Field

(Review by Steve, Paula's husband)

The title of this review may sound like damning with faint praise, but I mean it as sincere praise. Oftentimes I'll read a book and then want my ten hours back. Forget the money cost of the book; I resent wasting my leisure time on a bad read.

_The Magic, Warped_ was a good read. The pacing was generally good, with few slow spots or too-quick jumps. The universe is well-enough conceived and described for the first book of a series; I assume that many of the gaps will be filled in over the next books. (I'll point out that the society is repulsive to my ferociously egalitarian sentiments. Despite that, it's well thought out.)

One amusing point: I found the chapters with life at school to be the most interesting, but in email the author told me he viewed the school times to be the prelude to the real adventure story.

The only criticism I make of the book is the occasional oddities in English usage: homophones, near homophones, odd phrasing. It's not a real problem, as the meaning is clear enough, but I noticed one of these every few screens on the Kindle.

Recommended, if you like fantasy.

The Magic Warped The MagicWarper Trilogy Book 1 eBook Rick Field Reviews

Really wishing for a follow or companion story aome time in the near future. Would be an instant buy for me.
I was a bit skeptical about this book when it was recommended to me by a friend, but by the time I'd read the sample I was hooked and had to buy it. Despite the obvious aim at a young adult audience, this is a book that an adult can readily enjoy. The characters are well-rounded and engaging, drawing you into their expertly woven world. Field writes with quick pace and fantastic wit, and I think he could easily number among the emerging greats of our generation. Five stars.
This is a great read. The magic system is varied and largely original, but not so far from magic in other fiction that I had any trouble following it. The protagonist is also well balanced, magic wise. She's incredibly powerful and becomes very knowledgeable, but has some serious limitations that balance it out.

The plot of this first book is somewhat reminiscent of what the plot of the entire Harry Potter might have without Voldemort. There is a real enemy to defeat eventually but much of the story deals with education, the difficulties of truly exploring the potential of magic, and conflict between students.

I very much look forward to continuing to read this trilogy.
This is one of the best fantasy stories I've read. While perhaps not yet as riveting as our favorite epics, such as Tolkien, Jordan, or Goodkind, the potential is there with believable characters and a well developed world. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series. It's hard to believe this started out with a piece of fan fiction and an original character that just had to have her own series. Rick Field is one of the few authors skilled enough to successfully make the jump from writing online to writing professionally.
there was so much in this new world and there was never a slow off point. the main character is interesting tho not totally relatable but thats easily over looked. the story flowed well and keeps events happening so it is hard to put down. the size of the story is a huge plus for me. a 4.5 stars from me
I purchased this because of reading the initial work that was the genesis of this Novel.

I was not expecting a work of this calibre and couldn't put it down once I started reading. I cheered for the heroes who were HEROES despite making mistakes - The story was FUN. a refreshing departure from the grim fantasy works that are the more usual fare nowadays in mainstream publishing.

I was impressed by the universe building - or perhaps magic building - within the novel. While the characters and their development are time-tested archetypes - orphan, student, teacher, master - this merely lends a stability to the story that slowly unfolds the deeper complexities of the universe and allows you to enjoy the innovative magic/science without feeling overwhelmed with magi-speak.

There were also a number of surprising twists. So I'm looking forward to the next books!

Don't know the author or have ever spoken to him in any form.
I loved this story. I definitely recommend it for those who love stories of magic and want something of a decent length. The formality of the conversations were a bit hard for me to understand at first but it was a great story and I cannot wait to read the next.

The story is all from the perspective of an orphan girl whose magic is fractured because she used it before she was mature enough. She goes to the magic school and she makes a friend of sorts with a boy and the ensuing story is mainly their classes and social interactions with fellow students. There is more to it than that but i wouldnt want to spoil the story for anyone. Her fracturing of magic gives her unique abilities and she does her best to offset the negatives by studying hard. I think the studying and learning more about her magic is one of the things I enjoyed the most about it and again I cannot recommend it enough
