Honeymoon Hotel Hester Browne 9781451660531 Books

I really like Hester Browne as a writer and I think any one of her books (I've read them all) are absolutely the best choice for readers wanting something light, airy, and glossy a.k.a. "chick lit". She is also the only writer of "chick lit" who has made me outright laugh with her quirky style of comedy. However, I do feel a bit like I keep meeting the same characters in every new novel. It isn't a bad thing, per se, but I'm afraid it's becoming harder to ignore how every Hester Browne couple is virtually the same, with similarly sassy best friends/snobbish acquaintances/eccentric family members. The only thing that seems to change is the women’s professions, which still remains under this umbrella of quaint orderliness.

With Melissa and Nelson (Little Lady Agency), Browne set the bar pretty high, evolving a really solid, credible, easy-to-root-for rom-com couple. Unfortunately, every subsequent Browne couple is some variation of them and, inevitably, they fall a little flat. Maybe this will give you some perspective: In my opinion, if Melissa and Nelson are at the top, then Rosie and Joe fall to second worst Browne pairing, slightly above Betsy and Jamie (The Finishing Touches) but way below Evie and Robert (Swept Off Her Feet). Note: Amy and Leo (The Runaway Princess) are hard for me to rank because I couldn't get into their story line.

I really liked Rosie as a narrator/protagonist, but it was hard to believe that she fell for Joe because Joe never fully formed into a credible character. In fact, now that I think about it, none of the characters except for Rosie and the hotel really stood out. Helen did a little because, for once, the signature best friend was actually different. None of this is really outrageously bad. I did really enjoy the writing, I could identify with the bits of hotel madness, I love the sparkly, tinkling descriptions. But as a fan, faithfully following Browne's work for the last 7 years, I have to say that I keep expecting a little more from her. And this novel set the engine on cruise control once again.

Honeymoon Hotel Hester Browne 9781451660531 Books Reviews

Another winner by Hester Browne. I read it in one day, couldn't put it down. I own and have read all her books--they never get old, and I frequently go back to re-read them. She keeps the suspense but still gives the happy ending (we ALL need happy endings.)
Of all the British chic-lit, rom-com writers, Hester Browne remains my favorite. Her books are fun, delightful, and well written. I have to admit though, I wasn't sure about this book at first. But by the end I was inwardly cheering for the characters! I hope there will be more books to look forward to from this author!
I love that Rosie, like other women in Hester Browne's books, is witty and kind. You always love her heroines. These aren't soppy stars in the sky romances - they are stories about women's lives, and trying to make the best of what you've been dealt. There's great friendship, professional development, and fun. You care for these ladies. And the heroes aren't perfect stars. Each had his own warts and issues, and feels like a well rounded human being. Love Hester Browne's stories! I can't wait to read her next!
Browne did it again with Honeymoon Hotel, she wrote a book that was funny, romantic and just enough London that this American girl found herself laughing out loud st the characters' dialogue and surprised by the
dishes served up at the weddings. I always enjoy Ms. Browne 's novels and this one was no exception. Rosie is a very likable character and Joe reminds me of story entitled rich kid that has come home to take over the family business, but knows nothing about its daily management. Their interactions and the unexpected ways they help each other grow make for a sweet, witty, at times somewhat introspective, romantic comedy true to Hester Browne 's style. I highly recommend this book to her fans and fans of romantic comedies like Sophie Kinsella and Jane Green.
I have read Hester Browne's previous novels and loved them. She writes so beautifully and really knows how to create fun characters with even more fun storylines. However, I just didn't feel the same Hester Browne spirit in this novel and the heroine of the book just was lacking that trademark charm that I've seen other of Hester Browne's leading ladies have.

In Honeymoon Hotel, we meet Rosie. Although Rosie is the leading lady, it almost feels as if the Bonneville Hotel where she works is the main character. The Bonneville Hotel is located in London and is a historic hotel that has seen many starlets and catered to the rich and famous but has always maintained a more demure and has always been almost a secret getaway for folks rather than cast in the limelight. Laurence is the owner and seems a bit of an airhead, he basically has devoted his whole life to the hotel and lost two wives because of his obsession with the hotel.

Caroline, Laurence's ex, taught Rosie everything she knows about the Bonneville and how to put on fabulous events. Rosie has been working at the Bonneville since she was 16 and thanks to Caroline's help has become an integral part of the hotel's daily operations. With no General Manager, Rosie has had to pick up the slack whilst not reeping any of the benefits of the title. Rosie's boyfriend and pain in the butt food critic, Dominic tells Rosie that she needs to be more stern and demand the respect and title that she's worked so hard for. Dominic is the stereotypical JERK of a boyfriend and it's clear to anyone with common sense that things aren't going to end well for the two of them.

Rosie starts to realize how much she has been taken advantage of and decides to ask Laurence for the General Manager's position. They come to an agreement that if she can up the Events revenue by 20% in a YEAR that she can secure the position. So, Rosie's mission is to secure high profile wedding's and try to increase social media exposure for the hotel.

However, unbeknowst to Rosie, a wrench has just been thrown into her well executed plans. When Caroline and Laurence's son Joe shows up to Rosie's shock and dismay, it throws her for a loop. Joe who has never before shown any interest in the family business all of a sudden is everywhere. It seems Laurence is priming him for the hotel business and has him touring each department of the hotel, first stop on Joe's hotel education tour is Rosie's Events Dept.

Rosie has always been able to manufacture the perfect Bonneville wedding and knows how to steer her brides into the weddings that best suit the Bonneville, high class and classic affairs. However, now that Joe is on board, he's throwing all of Rosie's plans out of whack and putting crazy ideas into the bride's heads and feeding their crazy wants instead of letting Rosie do her magic.

While it was a good story, and well written, I just wasn't hungry for each and every word. I found myself getting bored and going to read another book and only coming back to read this when I couldn't find anything else to read... It just didn't draw me in the way you want to be when your reading a delish story. It was just kinda flat, I wasn't hanging on to every word wondering what was going to happen next.

I love Hester Browne and so I was really excited to see a new book being released. I was so disappointed that it wasn't up to snuff. It just didn't seem to have the same quirkiness that other of Browne's books have had. It just missed the mark for me this time.
